The Mindbenders - Um Um Um Um Um Um (1964)

Another band to get their name from a movie, this 1960s band was originally the backing group for Wayne Fontana and had a few hits in their short lifespan. Their biggest hit, "A Groovy Kind of Love," hit #2 in the UK in 1965 and was their first release after Wayne Fontana deserted the group mid-concert.

This song, however, comes from when Fontana was still in the group. It's a cover of an original song performed by Major Lance. The first fifteen seconds of the song are great. This version reached number five in the UK.

Lyrics:

Walking through the park, it wasn't quite dark
There was a man sittin’ on a bench
Out of the crowd, had his head lowly bowed
He just moaned and it made no sense

And he'd just go
Um, um, um, um, um
Um, um, um, um, um, um
Um, um, um, um, um
Um, um, um, um, um, um

I just couldn't help myself
I was born with a curious mind
I asked this man just what did he mean
When he moaned if he'd be so kind

And he'd just go
Um, um, um, um, um
Um, um, um, um, um, um
Um, um, um, um, um
Um, um, um, um, um, um

(Ahhh Ahhh Ahhh Ahhh…)
Now that I got up
And the woman I love she has gone
Now that I'm a man, I think I understand
Just why everyone should sing this song

So listen to me now
Um, um, um, um, um
Um, um, um, um, um, um
Um, um, um, um, um
Um, um, um, um, um, um

Come on now
Um, um, um, um, um
Um, um, um, um, um, um

Everybody
Um, um, um, um, um
Um, um, um, um, um, um
